Mental health awareness week - ideas for letting nature in

Mental Health Foundation Chief Executive Shaun Robinson says 'the mental wellbeing of your people is one of your most valuable business assets'.

This year’s Mental Health Awareness week theme is 'Let nature in': whether that means walking outside with your workmates, gathering in a local park or sharing your whakapapa, this year’s Mental Health Awareness week is all about boosting mental health and wellbeing through the power of nature. How are your team or organisation going to take part, from 8 to 14 October 2018?

At TAS, we’re supporting the General Managers of Human Resources to promote staff wellbeing. The Wellbeing for Health website is an excellent resource for DHB Staff, that you can draw on year-round. We’re making sure resources are available for each DHB, to support and supplement the resources of the Mental Health Foundation, and we have some wellbeing ideas below.

Ideas for your workplace

  • Host a yoga class onsite at your workplace, or even outside
  • Take your own kai/food down to the local park with your workmates, or have a shared lunch together
  • Learn or recite your pepeha – which river and mountain do you identify with?
  • Play songs about nature
  • Put together an advent calendar for Monday to Friday. Suggest activities for your team or workplace around these five ways to wellbeing - Connect, Keep Learning, Take Notice, Give, Be Active.

The workplace challenge

DHB Teams who enter the Mental Health Awareness Week Workplace Challenge will be featured on the Wellbeing for Health website.
